Baja by Fountain
The Difference

1. 100 % Vinyl Ester Resin The new Baja’s are produced 100% with vinyl ester resin. While these resins are more expensive than traditional polyesters they are much stronger, more resilient, prevent blistering, are more flexible and are less likely to allow delamination between laminates.

2. Hand-Laid Fiberglass vs. Infusion Each Baja is now hand laid just as we do with every Fountain. This is opposed to using the resin infusion (SCRIMP process) previously used at Baja. We believe that this gives us a more consistent process with an assurance of an acceptable mixture of fiberglass and resin in every hull.

3. High Density Foam Core Materials vs. Balsa All new Baja’s will be cored with high-density foam material – replacing the balsa core previously used. We know that foam core reduces absorption of water, creates a better bond to the fiberglass and will not rot or decay.

4. Fountain Stringer Systems vs. Liners In the new Baja’s we have incorporated a Fountain stringer system which is physically glassed into the bottom of the hull – insuring a bond directly to the hull. This configuration has eliminated the need for the liner system previously used. While the liner system gave a smooth finish inside individual compartments we believe that the Fountain grid stringer system ultimately provides a stronger backbone and structure for the boat, thereby reducing cracking or even hull failure.

5. Unitized Construction Each new Baja incorporates Fountains unitized construction techniques – a four step hull and deck bonding process using Plexus adhesive around the entire joint, fiberglassing the inside of the joint, thru bolting and rub rail screws. Our hulls and decks are bonded before we rig the boat and install the cabins. This technique gives the new Baja’s a stronger, more solid feel especially when running in rougher seas.

6. Hydraulic Steering Any new Baja powered by Mercury 496 engines or larger will come standard with full hydraulic steering. This external system holds the drive steady, allowing no side-to-side movement which helps to eliminate chine walking. This addition forces the boats to track much better and it gives a safer more stable ride. This system is more costly than traditional ride guide steering but we believe the benefits of improved tracking and stability are well worth it.

7. Raised X-Dimensions and Lab Finished Four Blade Propellers Through Fountains regimented testing program we have been able to maximize the efficiency of the Baja hulls. We have raised the X-dimensions which has made them accelerate and run faster as well as more efficiently.

8. Gear Ratio Change By changing the drive ratios from 1.5:1 to 1.65:1, the boats accelerate faster – giving it a better throttle response.

9. Newly Designed Cabins The newly designed stringer systems have created the need to update the cabin designs. Many of the cabins will incorporate a new design and appearance with additional structural enhancements.

10. Water Testing Each new Baja will be water tested prior to delivery. This will save your dealership time and money prepping the new Baja boats that arrive at your dealership. In addition, your customers will receive a turnkey package that is set up to perform at its optimum potential.
